Cake Show Recap: That Takes The Cake

The annual That Takes The Cake Show went off with a bang this year in Roundrock, TX. The theme of this year’s show was The Wild West, and Cowboy-themed cakes were in abundance at the cake competition. ACD correspondent, Cydni Mitchell shares some highlights from the show.

Taking first place in the Professional/Masters Cupcake category was Thomas Hogan who created these delightful yarn-ball cupcakes with a cute sculpted kitty.

Our very own Sales Director, Laurie Collins created this vintage-inspired country wedding cake complete with lace, hat box, leather straps and hand-painted details.
The talented Yi Han took second place in the Individual Showpiece Sculpted category for this incredible sculpted bear with Native American figurines.

This stunning 3-dimensional cookie display was created by Heather Brookshire, who took third place in the Cookie Professional/Masters category.

Sugar Artist, Beth Nolan took first place in the Special Royal Icing category for this Jasper-ware-inspired design in the traditional Wedgwood blue with delicate white piping.

This incredible sculpted Bull was created by Karon Reynolds, she took first place in the Professional/Masters category for Individual Showpiece Sculpted.

Quite possible the star attraction of the entire show was this incredible Native-American inspired design by Jennifer Reese of Good Gosh Ganache. Jennifer took a very well-deserved first place prize in the Individual Showpiece category of the show.
This year’s sugar-art installation was created by International sugar-artist and teacher, Jacqui Kelly and her students who designed and sculpted these fun saloon figurines.
