Mayra Estrada, of Cake Creations by ME, took first place in the Wedding Category at the 2016 LA Cookie Con & Sweets Show with this beautiful cake. Here are a few more images of her work as well as a look at what inspired her.
“Floral Radiance was my first ever competition entry at the LA Cookie Con. I decided to be bold and enter the Wedding Category. I knew I wanted my cake to have a soft feminine vintage feel but also be true to my modern aesthetic. The first tier is inspired by beaded lace fabric; I outlined the design onto the fondant and then hand piped all the beads with royal icing.”
“I used the same design to create floral appliques for the hexagon tier; incorporating elaborate swirls to add dimension to the design. I continued the design onto the corset tier and the board to create a completely cohesive design. I also played with dimension by using the floral motif in a bass relief application.”
“I used Satin Ice fondant and gumpaste and Rainbow Dust Edible Paint in the design. The piping was all achieved using the Sugar Veil Airpen Piping Dispenser. I was thrilled to be awarded with first place in the Wedding Category and I can’t wait to enter my next competition.”
