Trending in the New Year

By now you should have a copy of our Jan/Feb Trends issue in your hands, so you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say this: 2016 is going to be a stunning year in cake.

Jeweled floralsHand-painting techniques, and a return to the charms of nature are just a few of the trends we touched on. Well, just as rules were meant to be broken, lists were meant to be added to. We can’t help but add a few more to ours…

Lady Cakes
A sort of return to tradition, we predict there will be plenty of dainty, frilly, sweet little cakes to go around in 2016.

Gold & Jewels
It’s not just bling you’ll be seeing, it’s the colors of the gemstones themselves. Rich, deep jewel tones are back in a major way.

Floral Couture
Elaborate, intricately constructed sugar flowers are on the rise.

Woodgrain Textures
Along the lines of the nature trend, we think you’ll be seeing more woodgrain impressions on fondant, as well as a more impressionist woodgrain look swirled into buttercream. White on white, it makes the perfect blank canvas.
