Cake International is still having an impact on our little cake community over a month after the Birmingham show closed its doors on one of the biggest cake competitions in the world. Our roving reporter Sarah Louise Smith shares more from the wonderful sugar installations at Cake International; giving us a special behind-the-scenes look at the magic and wonder of this incredible international cake show.

Rhianydd Webb –  The Faraway Tree

This incredible feature was put together in just two weeks by Rhianydd how amazing is that!  It is Rhianydds first solo feature at Cake International, and I’m hoping it will be the first of many to come.  The feature is based on a lovely children’s storybook by Enid Blyton.  All of the characters looked amazing and even the table is made out of sugar paste.

I spoke To Rhianydd “I’ve always loved The Faraway Tree, and when we asked the publishers for permission the Enid Blyton society sent over lots of copies of the original drawings”

Rose Macefield –  Magical Beasts

Another amazing artist that I always get really excited about was back at CI with a feature, previously Rose had an incredible Superhero feature with larger than life Batman and Superman at Novembers Cake International.  This time Rose made the Magical Beasts feature which was so amazing and featured characters from the new JK Rowling story.  I just fell in love with Dobby, he’s so perfect, I would have taken him home, but I think I may have been spotted trying to smuggle him out of the show and Rose knows where I live lol.

Rose created all of these characters in just three weeks…wow!

Chocolate Magic – Daniel Dieguez

This feature was good enough to eat…and at the end of the show lots of visitors were invited to do just that!

This amazing sculpture was created by Daniel who worked on this amazing feature throughout the show to bring it to life, as soon as it was finished visitors were invited to try it, sadly I was on the other side of the hall and missed it but I’m sure it couldn’t have tasted as amazing as it looked.

Paul Bradford Sugar School

This display was so gorgeous and definitely made you feel Christmassy

It was a stunning Winter Wonderland feature which had lots of amazing pieces made Pro Members of the Paul Bradford online Sugar School.

All of the pieces made are following classes taught by Paul on his online school.

It was lovely as most of the members had only talked online prior to the Cake International show and it was the first time they had met when they delivered their pieces. Some had even flown in to take part.

Potters Owls – Planet Fluff Productions

This was another adorable tabletop display and I just loved it.  The collaborators had made the most amazing owls based on Harry Potter characters, just look how gorgeous they are.
