Cassandra Rice’s cake in the March/April Showcase featured chrysanthemum flowers as an embellishment. She kindly shares a tutorial for making those flowers here.
Tools needed:
1 sheet of wafer paper
Curling iron
Chive scissors
Regular scissors
Paint brush
Cluster of stamens
Floral tape
Floral wire
Steps:
1. Take 45 flower stamens and fold in half.
2. Take a floral wire and fold in half.
3. Take floral wire and loop through the stamens and tape stamens and wire together.
4. Cut wafer paper in long strips, in three different sizes: approximately 4 inches, 2 1⁄2 inches and 1 1⁄2 inches wide.
5. Use your chive scissors and cut all the way down your wafer paper.
6. Use your curling iron to curl the wafer paper. If a couple pieces fall off it’s fine.
7. Starting with your 1 1⁄2 inch piece, gently dampen with paintbrush on the straight end and begin wrapping it around the stamen curled side facing out. Continue with the 2 1⁄2 and 4 inch.
