Sugar Supervillains- Comic Con Cake Collaboration

Inspired by the Annual San Diego Comic Con International, Mayra Estrada of Cake Creations by M.E. organized a “super” collaboration featuring some of Comic Con’s most well known and best loved characters. Here are a few of our favorite super villains from the Comic Cake collaboration.

“My piece was inspired by Poison Ivy, one of the sexiest supervillains known in comics. The first layer is a cake covered in fondant then airbrushed to resemble dirt. I added gum paste leaves and vines working their way up and transforming into her form. My topper was hand painted in detail, and her body was covered with ivy leaves that were applied in layers for a more realistic look. Her flaming red hair was made using a clay extruder and each strand was applied one by one. Poison Ivy is depicted as one of the world’s most notorious eco-terrorists and possesses a very unique beauty.”

“Cheetah was my source of inspiration. She’s sexy with a known legacy of being a super-villain. She first appeared in the comic Wonder Woman in #7. She had an intense jealousy over Wonder Woman and wants to destroy her. I created the figurine using fondant over an armature.”

“It feels incredibly special to have joined this collaboration. It has been lots of fun and a great pleasure to team out with such outstanding artists. My collaboration piece is Cyadea, Maiden of Lust. Cyadea is one of the main antagonists from Blizzard Entertainment’s world of Diablo III. It was a great challenge to model this figure with its’ mix of grace and complexity. Cyadea and her victim were molded from fondant, gum paste and cake lace. The spider queens abdomen consists of rice cereal treats and fondant.”

“This cake is inspired by Tim Burton’s success, and his iconic dipiction of Cat Woman with the incredible hand-made cat suit.  In my own way I have also tried to represent the main characters of the film revolving around Catwoman and Batman; the good, the bad the Penguin.”

“My inspiration was Zyra Rise of the Thorns. I love everything about her. She is beautiful but don’t let that fool you. The ancient, dying plant Zyra transferred her consciousness into a human body for a second chance at life. If you get too close, you will feel her pain!!! I incorporated some of the elements she uses in the game. The flower next to her is
called deadly bloom. The bud is rampant growth with strangle thorns on the base.
She is sculpted out of rice krispies then covered in fondant and gumpaste. No molds were used she is all freehand.”
