Our spotlight this week falls on cake designer Angela Morris of Blossom Dream Cakes. Angela has been cake decorating for a little over three years. She enjoys a variety of different styles, such as sculpting, modeling and painting- but her particular strength lies in classic, elegant designs with floral adornments. Angela shares her gorgeous coral and eucalyptus wedding cake and discusses the inspiration and process behind her design.
This glorious floral cake was created for a recent wedding, Angela tells us, “The bride was born and raised in South America, and having grown up eating fresh passion fruit every day, for her it had to be a passion fruit cake, which was new to me.” The bride was looking to evoke memories of her child-hood and no doubt bring a little of herself into the cake design. Angela spent some time researching recipes and settled on a delicious passion fruit recipe with a refreshing filling.
The stunning design
The color scheme of the cake is particularly on trend for the season with a soft and romantic feel and muted colors. Angela notes, “At consultation we discussed her color scheme of coral and eucalyptus and what she described as a ‘soft rustic’ and romantic theme. She had a particular fondness for big ‘feisty’ blooms, trailing greenery and an elegant but rustic wood effect or lacework; and in her words ‘be a bit messy, not perfect’!! ”

Another on trend design detail is this stunning blue/green wooden fondant effect, Angela explains, “The wood was added to the bottom tier, I created panels of softly marbled wooden boards- to give an aged/almost driftwood effect. The flowers were added to soften the look and create that “Romance” the bride was looking for.”
Angela incorporated the coral color in the gorgeous floral work and mixed in various shades of the soft green color palette throughout the greenery. The flowers were added in a loose wreath, which gives the design a soft and easy flow and doesn’t look “over-styled”. The cake definitely reflects that whimsical, romantic, messy perfection the bride was looking for.
