A Rainbow of Ruffles

Jennifer Riley, of CAKE! by Jennifer Riley, sent us this colorful creation that she designed in honor of her mother.

“I made this cake for Mother’s Day in honor of my late mother who passed away from cancer 11 years ago. There is a little tribute to her at the bottom of this cake (the butterfly because she loved butterflies). I usually like to use or leave something on the cakes I create for myself that reminds me of her. She is my main inspiration as to why I keep my business going, art is my therapy and my happy place.”

“I created this cake as I went along with no planning (besides watching peony tutorials haha). I am the type of person who will just sit down and get lost in my emotions.”

“I used the confetti technique and airbrushed the tiers with the purple/green/blue, then added a bit of pink shimmer and pearl to make them extra shinny. For the ruffles, I used the ruffle technique, but put a twist on it by using two colors together so each angle you look at is a different color, then lightly airbrushed those with a pink shimmer. For the top I used silver leaf with some of it left as-is and some using the antique technique, then used an airbrush to add color and watercolor dripping from the top (kind of to resemble the chocolate technique that is popular right now).”
