Here at ACD, we are still buzzing with excitement over our recent trip to the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show. Undoubtedly one of the most hotly anticipated, and highly regarded shows of the year; OSSAS did not disappoint. Budding and eager bakers were thrilled with a collection of Grand National Wedding Cakes exploring the latest trend for metallics. Towering creations and show-stopping designs wowed guests with the latest cake decorating innovations. There was plenty to see in other divisions with towering cookies, mind-boggling optical illusions and sculptural wonders.
We share some more highlights from this wonderful event.
Sarah Myers of High Five Edible Art Studio created this beautiful Russian inspired cake with gold oriental strings work and beautiful piped details. Titled, “From Russia With Love” the piece featured two Russian doll toppers.
Taking best in show for her incredible, “The Goddess Karma” sculpted creation, Joanne Wieneke of The Little Cake Patch retained her crown. The jaw-dropping piece was sculpted from a base of royal icing and finished with fondant and modeling chocolate details. The statue had a stone-like appearance and featured sugar lotus flowers.
Reva Alexander Hawk of Merci Beaucoup Cakes went for pink, glam and fashion details with her beautiful design. Featuring stunning, deep-pink sugar peonies, buttons, and bows. Reva crafted used edible cake lace to craft her skirt details. Elegant gold piping added just a touch of delicacy to this feminine design.
Barb Evans who create this beautiful pink cake with white piped details. We especially loved the beautiful string-work collar and the basket weave effect of the bottom tier, It doesn’t help that we are a sucker for anything pink.
