Our Cake of the Day is brought to you by Lisa Hererra of A Cake Come True. This gorgeous Steampunk fashion inspired cake was created for a styled shoot and inspired by a beautiful hand-made, custom gown by Colorado fashion designer, Jade Locke of The Secret Boutique . The vision was captured by Denver based photographer Nicole Nichols Photography LLC. Lisa shares the details behind this stunning cake and some gorgeous photos from the shoot.

“This was a fun cake made for a non traditional stylized shoot,” notes Hererra, “I wanted to showcase a dress makers vision of a steampunk wedding. The cake was inspired by the dress used in the shoot. The floating heart is made from rice cereal treats, and covered in fondant. The corset is made from modeling chocolate that I embossed to give it texture and the look and feel of real leather. I added butterflies, bees, gears, and other details all made with modeling chocolate. I also incorporated some sugarveil lace.”

The Gorgeous gown, which provided the inspiration for the cake, is pictured below. The metallic backdrop provides the perfect setting.

Lisa combines Sugarveil lace with fondant and adds shading in rich browns to create a realistic leather effect. Stitched details add realism to the leather straps. The metallic blue and copper keys and butterflies add a touch of whimsy and femininity to the design.

The cake is adorned with a gorgeous copper and silver metallic heart, which adds a romantic feel and completes the design.
