ACD+ Manuela Taddeo Tutorial Extra

Award winning artist and international teacher, Manuela Taddeo, created a gorgeous, pressure-piped lady for our March/April issue, we feature the second part of her incredible tutorial; showing the simple steps to create beautiful, piped-lace extension pieces.

Step 1) Prepare the design of the subject you want to pipe on top of the cake. Trace the design onto paper or card; separating out the elements that overlap in the image will give more three-dimensionality.

Manuela Notes:  Apply a food-safe clear acetate sheet over the prepared design and spread on a thin layer of vegetable shortening, like Crisco, to prepare the surface for the royal icing.

Step 2) Attach the lace templates to the card supports and cover with transparent plastic, spread a thin layer of Crisco over the acetate.

With a tip No. 0 and a tip No. 1, Pipe carefully over the template, using the larger tip to create the outline and the smaller tip to fill in the details.

When the lace pieces are dry, carefully remove from the supports.

Carefully attach the royal icing lace pieces to the sides of your cake using a little royal icing.
