American Cake Decorating 2017 Editorial Overview

Every issue of American Cake Decorating magazine is filled with the latest cake decorating information that our readers crave. With the addition of a digital edition, we were able to add even more—more recipes, more tutorials, more exclusives and more incredible cakes to wow and inspire.

We’ve listened to feedback and responded to suggestions with the introduction of exciting new columns and up-to-the-minute content. For 2017 our focus remains on bringing you more—more how-to’s, more exclusive interviews, see-it-here-first designs and more insight into the wonderful world of cake. Here’s a run-down of what we include in every issue, as well as what to expect for the coming year:

Test Kitchen: We ask an experienced baker, cake designer, chocolatier or sugar artist to try out a new piece of equipment, tool, or ingredient. Each issue documents their process and experience of the latest product innovations.

Tutorials: Every issue features three incredible tutorials, and each tutorial is tailored to create an easy-to-follow learning experience for cake lovers at every level; from novice to intermediate and even advanced level decorators – we have something for everyone.

Tutorial Sponsorship: Want to showcase your latest products? Why not put your tools in the hands of our contributors. We work with the very best cake decorators the industry has to offer and they LOVE to create inspiring tutorials using the latest products and tools.

A Matter of Taste: To encourage readers to experiment with flavor, each issue will feature a chef developing unique recipes based around a specific flavor theme.

Feature your products: we’re always looking to connect our contributors with the latest flavors and ingredients. Our contributors innovate to create Incredible “tested and trusted” recipes.

By the Book: Similar to Test Kitchen, instead here the contributor takes on a new release, trying out a project, method, technique or recipe from a book to share with readers.

Business-Minded: Business of Baking expert and book author Michelle Green gives our readers insight into the issues facing small- to mid-sized business owners including marketing, hiring, pricing and much more.

Profile: An in-depth look at a key individual, with commentary on how they built their business, what challenges they faced and what they plan for the future.

Madeleine: A “stream of consciousness” interview with a sugar arts professional on their taste and flavor memories.

Story of A Cake: We take an in-depth look at incredible cakes that have captivated the industry. Story of A Cake explores the journey of cake from inception to execution.

The Cakeologist: A more technical take on a specific ingredient or process that is critical to the success of any cake, written by industry, cake, and pastry expert Kara Andretta.

Where Bakers Fear to Tread: Derek Aimonetto guides our readers through traditional techniques. Demystifying art forms such a Lambeth and Nirvana and breaking these complex, much admired, but feared, techniques into easy and digestible lessons that even the novice decorator can understand

The Art of Buttercream: Buttercream expert and all-around cake enthusiast Kerrie Wyer of Viva La Buttercream shares her tips, tricks, hacks and insights on all things buttercream. This will be a great column with hands-on tutorials, delicious recipes and inspiring projects.

Work Station: Our contributor product recommendations: The latest products with written testimonials and how they inspire our readers to create. Send us your product and we’ll get it in the hands of our contributors.

Last Bite: A beautiful cake/dessert photo and recipe to close out the issue.

Plus: Every issue contains a showcase featuring individual design projects, a trend feature, tutorials, reports on shows or other events in the cake/pastry/sugar arts world, recipes and more.
